Welcome to the George Inn with Great food, Drink and Accommodation for over 700 years

Seven miles from Bath and set in scenery of rolling green Somerset hills, the inn has much to delight - Character bedrooms with beams and wonky floors, cosy bars and an ancient galleried courtyard.

The George is a grade 1* listed building situated in an idyllic setting with beautiful views. Our garden overlooks the village church against a backdrop of unspoiled rural scenery. In the adjoining field there is a children’s playground.

The village of Norton St Philip is a real find as it has come through the centuries remarkably undisturbed.

Breakfast

We believe that it is the most important meal of the day so we are now serving breakfast to non Inn residents. This will be available 8am - 11am Monday to Friday and 9am - 11am Saturday and Sunday. Please click here to take a look and click here to see the rest of our fabulous food on offer.

Jazz @ The George

Here at the George we hold regular jazz evenings and have even been called the south west's coolest jazz venue!

Simply give us a call to book a table and enjoy our fantastic home cooked food in our amazing dining room listening to the sounds of live jazz. What could be better? Click here for full line up

Any unsold tables will be available for you to watch and have a drink but only once the performance has started.

Thank you to everyone who came to our Mad Hatter Tea Party, we have raised £186 for Brain Tumour Research

The Village and Local Area

Architecturally, you can see mullion windows, stone-tiled roofs and the local stone facings of the cottages. There are medieval buildings and a number of cottages built in the 17th and 18th centuries. For explorers the national Trust Village of Lacock and the historic town of Bradford Upon Avon are a short drive away and a visit to the nearby Longleat House, one of the most magnificent stately homes and gardens in Britain together with its safari park, is not to be missed.

The local country side is intersected by footpaths and bridleways which are great for walks and discovering our local wildlife.

The Plaine, situated immediately across the road from the George, has been acquired to offer additional bedroom facilities. It has been lovingly refurbished with contemporary designed rooms. Check in, parking and breakfast take place at the George Inn.
